Message Bees

I made this for a friend who wanted to get a special looking cake for her best friend who had just announced she was getting married. They were having a small dinner with a group of six friends so I thought this was a great way to represent the 6 girls -Bees carrying a congratulatory message!

Christmas Everywhere

I made this for my sister so that she could take it to a Christmas Potluck at her office. Everyone loved the cute figurines and actually ate them!

Safari

I made this for someones birthday. This cake was a bit tricky as the request was for it to be a veegetarian cake which are usually much more crumbly than the usual cake. I made layers of vegetarian orange cake - no eggs, just butter, flour, sugar and freeshly squeezed orange juice and zest. I then layered it with butter cream before icing it and covering it with fondant. This turned out not as difficult as I thought it would be!

Temple of Zeus

Temple of Zeus. I made this for my sister's birthday and threw her a party at The Dining Room at the Westin in KL. Needless to say, the inspiration was the Temple of Zeus in Athens, Greece. We had just returned from a 2 week vacation in Europe where we spent a few days visiting the ruins of ancient Greece in Athens and Temple of Zeus was my sister's favourite so I made this cake which took almost a week to complete and could not be a surprise because we lived in the same house!! The pillars are made from gumpaste, hand sculpted onto lollipop sticks. The cake is an orange butter cake with an orange butter cream filling.

Sakura

Sakura. This was made during Chinese New Year and of course the fake branches of the sakura flower that is so prevalent during Chinese New Year was the inspiration. I made this as a gift to an aunt and needless to say, it made an impression! Again, 100% edible with the flowers made from gumpaste and everything else fondant.

Xmas Tree

Xmas Tree. My mother wanted me to make a cake to take it to church on Christmas day for the potluck they were having. I used butter cream for needles of the pine tree and chocolate ganache for the bark of tree. Snowflake icing decorations from Wilton used together with gold and silver beads and a final sprinkling of icing sugar to put some realism into it. This was very popular and I ended up getting requests for classes which was quite flattering! But then again, I brought myself back down to earth by reminding myself it was Sungai Siput (my hometown) where they hardly ever have cake decorating classes

Frog Prince

Frog Prince. My friend Tang who is also ex-housemate No.3 was the last housemate to move out hence her title (no.3). She celebrated her birthday together with Alice but unlike Alice who specified she wanted a "pretty cake", Tang specified that she did not want a pretty cake, she wanted a yummy one, specifically my signature chocolate cake with chocolate ganache which meant no sugar paste. So I had to be creative and finally made this Frog Prince for her. Everyone found it funny and she kissed the frog prince as she made her birthday wish!
